Summary of Vocation in English

The poet speaks about his childhood day. He was attracted with liberty enjoyed by a bangle seller, a gardener and a watchman. He was jealous, as he could not have that freedom.

He wanted to be free from routine and schedule forced upon him. He wanted to bask in the sunshine and to get drenched in the rain. He wanted to play with his shadow.

The poet leaves for school at the sound of gong when it struck ten. The child passes through his lane everyday and come across a hawker. The hawker sells bangle. He seems to be in no hurry as he need not to reach anywhere quite opposite to the poet.

The statements imply that the child has to follow various schedule and timings. He wanted to enjoy the freedom enjoyed by the bangle seller.

He also compares his life with a gardener who works in a house. When he returns from school at four, he envies the life of the gardener and he wishes if he were a gardener.

The poet finds him enjoying playing with the tools, nobody stops him from basking in the sun. His clothes get soiled with dust, he enjoys rain too. Whereas the poet is questioned and often directed.

The boy talks about the life and routine of a watchman. The watchman enjoys his freedom at night but mother of the poet puts him to bed in the late evenings.

The watchman roams around in the streets enjoying full liberty. He swings his lantern and roams around. The poet wishes to lead life of a watchman. The poet longs for freedom.

Summary of Vocation in Hindi

बच्चे ने कहा कि जब गोंग मारा और दिन का पहला भाग घोषित करने के लिए आवाज लगाई, तो उस समय 10 बजे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि उनके स्कूल जाने का समय भी यही था। स्कूल जाते समय वह एक सेल्समैन को देखता था जो अपनी चूड़ियाँ बेचने के लिए “चूड़ियाँ, क्रिस्टल की चूड़ियाँ” चिल्लाता था।

उसे देखते समय, बच्चे को लगा कि विक्रेता मुक्त है। वह उस बच्चे के विपरीत कहीं भी पहुंचने की जल्दी में नहीं था, जिसे समय पर अपने स्कूल पहुंचना था और घर वापस आना था। उसने सोचा कि चूड़ी विक्रेता किसी भी समय की कमी से मुक्त था, जगह की सीमा का मतलब है कि वह उसके विपरीत किसी भी स्थान पर जाने के लिए स्वतंत्र था। उसे लगा जैसे वह सख्त टिप्पणियों के अधीन था और विक्रेता पूर्ण स्वतंत्रता का आनंद ले रहा था।

इस प्रकार, वह अपनी स्वतंत्रता से इतना प्रभावित हुआ कि उसने एक शिकारी बनने की कामना की। वह स्वतंत्र रूप से आगे बढ़ना चाहता था और सड़कों पर उसकी तरह चिल्लाता था। दोपहर चार बजे स्कूल से वापस आने के बाद बच्चे ने घर के गेट के माध्यम से माली को देखा। वह बाहर झांकता था और उसे मिट्टी खोदते हुए देखता था।

यहां बच्चे को धूल में रहने और अपनी पसंद की चीजों को अपने औजारों से करने की स्वतंत्रता ने आकर्षित किया। उसने सोचा कि माली को अपने कपड़े मिट्टी से गंदे करने, अपने औजारों से खेलने, ज्यादा देर तक धूप में रहने, पसीने से भीगने या कुछ भी करने की आजादी थी और उसे इस सब के लिए कोई सजा नहीं मिल रही थी। जबकि अगर उसे यह सब करने की सजा मिलती। तो, उस कार्यकर्ता की कठिनाइयों से पूरी तरह से अनजान, वह अपनी पसंद की चीजें करने के लिए माली के रूप में आकर्षित हुआ और उसे रोकने के लिए आसपास कोई नहीं था।

रात में उसकी माँ उसे अपने कमरे में सोने के लिए भेजती थी जहाँ एक खुली खिड़की हुआ करती थी। वहाँ से वह एक पहरेदार को इधर-उधर टहलता हुआ दिखाई देगा, एक तरफ से दूसरी ओर अंधेरे में, अकेली गली में। उसके हाथ में एक दीपक भी था जो उसके सिर में लाल आँख के साथ एक अलौकिक की तरह लग रहा था।

बच्चा अपनी चाल से इतना आकर्षित था कि वह एक चौकीदार बनना चाहता था, जो पूरी रात सड़कों पर चल सकता था, हाथ में लालटेन लेकर उसकी परछाई के बाद।
